Lines, Dennis. The Bullies: Understanding
Bullies and Bullying. London: Jessica Kingsley, 2008. Print.(11-13)
This book is talking about understanding the depth about bullying how it is
started. Many of the kids who do bullying is having family troubles at home or
there is some type of insecurity about their lives. Bullying can not only take
place at school but at home and at a workplace. There is a constant endless
cycle to bullying which never stops. I find this book to be helpful because it
gives a more in depth perception to this problem. Even though its not always on
the news, but it happens everywhere constantly. Not only to kids in school but
also to young adults to older adults.
"Bullying-suicide Link Explored in New Study by Researchers at Yale." Mental
Health Weekly Digest 4 Aug. 2008
This magazine article is talking about how Yale has done 37 studies in many
different countries on the reactions to children being bullied and the effect of
them being bullied is having suicidal thoughts. The children have reported to
have suicidal thoughts due to being bullied by other kids in their school.
Children among teenagers are in a higher chance to have suicidal thoughts due to
being in such a fragile state. Many adults brush this matter off as a way of
growing up when they ignore that it can be very damaging to the children
themselves. Causing depression, Anxiety or worse suicidal thoughts. This article
can be useful in proving my point that bullying have major effects on children
now-a-days.

This website gives you all the necessary information you need to prevent or know
about bullying. Also, information on what is cyberbullying and how it affects
kids now-a-days. I believe this website will be very useful to me in my project
due to it having all the types of information I would need. There are different
types of bullying and how to prevent each one in this website. They have their
own section for “who's at risk” and “how to prevent it”. This website gives you
options about whichever tab of information you choose. In my honest opinion I
think this website is perfect.
Farrington, David P.
"Understanding and Preventing Bullying." Crime and Justice 17 (1993):
381. Print.
This journal is about Professor David P. Farrington in the psychology
department. It came to the attention that in schools about half of the students
were bullies and the other half were victims. This journal is basically about
close observance of bullies being aggressive, confident and tough, while the
victims are people who are unpopular, weak and lonely. There are methods on
preventing bullying such as friendship and having kids become more social with
others, so one another can build friendships and bullying can cease. In other
words this journal can give me another option of how close observance of
studies can come by.
Espinoza,
Guadalupe. Bullying Experiences and Compromised Academic Performance Across
Middle School Grades 31 (2010): 152-73. Print
This is a interesting article about how bullies in schools test scores come out
as low performance. This research has been taken from 33 different studies in
the past 10 years. For example, “The effects of bulling in the course of middle
school has been high rates of school absences and lower grades”. Also, students
that are victims tend to stop participating in class due to them having the fear
of being made fun of by their peers or getting beat up. In the end, bullying can
cause severe effects directly onto a student and indirectly, such as victims
becoming depressed and their academic performances becoming low.

Teachers and Parents in Bullying Behavior." Health Education Research

This is another approach towards studying bulling. “This study dealt with over
2700 students in 32 dutch elementary schools took part in a questionnaire on
bullying behavior and teachers, parents involvement”. This journal also gives
statistics such as “more than 16 % of children aged 9-11 years old have been
reported to being bullied on a regular basis and 5.5 % reported regular active
bullying”. Also, it talks about teachers involvement in the matter either stays
the same or makes it worse, such as a student telling the teacher that a fellow
student has been bullying him/her. In the end, this gives more statistics as a
journal with a different approach by asking the students by questionnaires.

"Predictors of Bullying and Victimization in Childhood and Adolescence: A
Meta-analytic Investigation." School Psychology Quarterly 25.2 (2010):

This journal will help me with my paper with classifying the types of “bully
status groups”. This journal goes in depth with bullies futures. For example,
“studies have shown that bullies are significantly more likely to be convicted
of criminal offense when they are adults than their non involved peers”. Also,
bullies are more likely to have problems such as in relationships and substances
abuse. The victims of bullying have more psychological problems such as
thoughts of suicide or attempts at committing suicide in rare cases. This
journal has more of a futuristic view in both bullies and their victim
The
Sydney morning Herald (Sydney, Australia), DPP warns lawyers: stop bullying or
else. March 23,2013, p6
This article about lawyers even in office they still have bullying going on with
one another. Being a lawyer is a profession that has a lot of egos and co
workers always thinking they're better than you. Bullying and harassment happens
even in the law firm, this article also says that “two lawyers have committed
suicide from the DPP”. It has become an offense if one lawyer bullies or
harasses another worker in court or in the firm. In rare cases of extreme
bullying or harassing, “the court has ordered for the removal of the offender
from judicial office”
